Profile of Department


The Department of Economics is established in 1972 and it is the oldest departments in VSU PG Centre. The objectives of the department are to impart qualitative education in the subject of economics with local, national and international importance, to  acquire sufficient mathematical and statistical skills to be able to analyze economic problems and to make use of those skills for their future careers, to develop good citizenship and leadership qualities; and also to make them to lead a better life in the society within the parameters of values and systems of Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore.

Research Projects and Project Funding

Title of the Project: Impact of Skill Development Training Programme on Livelihood of Youth: A Case Study of Andhra Pradesh


The Department has 2 class rooms, 1 office room and 2 staff rooms.

4 semesters with 24 theory papers with 96 credits

Student Profile 

The Department has the total intake of 40 students

Teaching and Learning Process

Regular classroom teaching with Black Board and LCD Projectors

Weekly seminars and group discussions on current economic topics for improving Students’ proficiency in various aspects viz. expressing skills, time management and team work. 

Guest lectures from the faculty of various Universities  

Field visits to create awareness about implementation of various development programmes funded by Central and State Government.  

Extension Activities

Students encouraged and trained to appear for NET/SLET/UPSC, APPSC and Other Competitive Examinations.

Students are actively participate in NSS Activities, Blood Donation camps and Swatch Bharath activities.
